System Shock remake is almost ready, so now it’s time to remind you that Nightdive Studios is also working on updating System Shock 2. System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition, as it is officially called, will not be a complete update, like the upcoming System Shock remake, but it promises to make a magnificent immersive simulator from Irrational looking and playing as well as possible as possible.
System Shock 2 was released in 1999, and even then it was not a great look -looking game. However, it was perfectly done. And although she, unfortunately, did not become a hit of sales, she received wide recognition of critics and turned out to be extremely durable and influential.
For many years, fans created various mods and packages of visual updates to give System Shock 2 the same look, but to collect and install them all is real trouble. Enhanced Edition is designed to simplify this task: to collect all these scattered assets into a single package.
System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition was created with the aim of reengineering the original code to transfer the SS2 to the Kex Engine engine and release for the first time on the consoles of the new generation. Nightdive also cooperates with the Systemshock community.Org to integrate all the best mods and updates. All cinematic effects, textures, models of characters and weapons were updated.
Our artists retained the silhouettes of the characters, adding additional landfills to smooth out some sharp corners, and all the textures were redrawn, using the originals as the basis. In no case do we delete the original game, so if you want to go through the vanilla game and install the mods you need, it will always be possible.
You can see the difference on the above screenshots. Visual effects are the most obvious update, but Nightdive CEO Steven Kick said that the biggest difference in System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition can be seen in the updated multiplayer game mode. The cooperative game was added to the original System Shock 2 in patch after launch, and it was very uncomfortable and often flew out. According to Kik, multiplayer in Enhanced Edition "was redesigned to create seamless experience", and will simplify the process of connecting with other players and ensure a more smooth and stable experience.
The release date of the System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition has not yet been determined, but less than two weeks are left before the System Shock remake – it will be released on May 30. Having previously bought the game at Steam or GOG, you will receive the System Shock 2 Enhanced Edition for free when it comes out.
